AUGUSTIN TEBOUL first made a splash with their mystique and creativity last summer during the Berlin Fashion Week 2011, winning the SYFB award. This year, the two female designers are back on Berlin’s catwalk (July 4 – 7, 2012) with their signature aesthetic that arises from the conception of two contrasting personalities: German-born Annelie Augustin with subtle, minimal shapes and her sophisticated mind and French-born Odély Teboul, the rather chaotic, nostalgic crafts-woman.
Both graduated with honors at Esmod Paris in 2006. Subsequently Annelie worked for Yohji Yamamoto for Adidas and Odély for Jean Paul Gaultier. In 2009 they combined their visions in the collection “cadavre exquis” that was honored with three awards in both France and Germany. Thus encouraged they decided to transform the project into a label, positioned on the edge between ready-to-wear and haute couture: AUGUSTIN TEBOUL.
In 2011 the label received the highest priced German fashion award Start Your Fashion Business (SYFB). The award and initiative was organized by the Berlin Senate Department for Business, Technology, and Women Initiative (also known as part of the Project Future initiative).
The focus of this Berlin Senate competition is to honour fashion designers who are planning to start a fashion label in Berlin or have already founded one. The award and its prize money gives three talented Berlin-based designers invaluable start-up capital and coaching in all aspects of their business to help them on their way to independence. This aims to keep talent in Berlin and to strengthen the local infrastructure.
The 4th annual Green Showroom at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin-Mitte presented eco-friendly and fair-trade luxury designs. The culmination of the event was a salon show, with a catwalk set up in the hotel.
GREENshowroom is an un-conventional trade-fair/showroom with a new refreshing concept, conceived to enrich the fashion world. The future of the high-end lifestyle sector lies in the combination of luxury and sustainability.
The exhibition is taking place in luxurious Hotels or Lofts, spread over several suites, turning our visitors into explorers, who can expect a wonderful insight into the hotel rooms. The participating brands present their designs, not only on racks, but in open light flooded cupboards; accessories on beds & tables; with jewelry & beauty products in the luxurious bathrooms. The restrooms become changing cabins while conversation and business talk are held in the ‘living room’ area.
One of the most important characteristics of GREENshowroom is the decision, to select the participants through design and innovation as well as having to fulfill a set of ecological guidelines, to strengthen our message and keep the standards up. Participation in GREENshowroom requires a high level of design, quality and innovation.
Besides, brands have to be able to prove at least 60% or more of their product is sustainable which will be proofed through a questionnaire. Sustainability means for example:
- Certified organic material or
- Recycled materials
- Standards such as Cradle to Cradle®, bluesign or Lifecycle analysis
- According to Fairtrade or other accepted social standards produced or traded products
- Support of social projects and traditional textile skills
